Company Overview
KYMEA headquarters is located in Louisville, Kentucky. The KYMEA Energy Center I is located in Madisonville, Kentucky. It is designed for 75 net megawatts (MW) of capacity. The facility will feature four Wartsila 18V50SG reciprocating internal combustion engine (RICE) generators, each with a nominal capacity of 18.8 MW. Designed for both continuous and peaking service, the plant will be capable of multiple quick starts and stops per day, ensuring flexibility and responsiveness to the Agency’s energy needs.
Company History
Created in September 2015, 11 municipal electric utilities entered into an Interlocal Cooperation Agreement creating the Kentucky Municipal Energy Agency (KYMEA), a joint public agency. KYMEA was formed to facilitate effective collaboration among its members to do all things necessary or convenient to serve the current and future electric power and energy requirements of the members and to provide assistance to the members related to their electric power and energy utility systems.
